Tony Estanguet, a three-time Olympic gold medalist in canoeing and former President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, has been nominated as a candidate for the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The nomination will be voted on during the 144th IOC Session, held in Greece from 18 to 21 March 2025.
Independent Nomination
Estanguet’s nomination falls under Rule 16.1.1. of the Olympic Charter, which allows up to seven individuals to be elected as Independent Members. This special category recognizes their exceptional contributions to the Olympic Movement, regardless of nationality or National Olympic Committee (NOC) affiliations.
