Cricket Australia (CA) has announced Todd Greenberg as its next chief executive officer, set to succeed Nick Hockley in March. Greenberg, currently serving as CEO of the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA), will bring extensive experience in sports administration and a track record of negotiating critical agreements, including the Memorandum of Understanding that has advanced women’s remuneration in cricket.
Greenberg, the 15th person to lead CA since its establishment in 1892, steps into the role at a pivotal time. Cricket globally is experiencing rapid growth, presenting both opportunities and challenges. Greenberg expressed his enthusiasm for the position, citing the importance of building on the strong foundations laid by the current administration. “I want to ensure Australian cricket continues to thrive – from local parks to the nation’s biggest stadiums,” he said.
Greenberg’s career spans over a decade of playing cricket and leadership roles in major sports organisations, including a tenure as CEO of the National Rugby League. His leadership at the ACA has been marked by successful negotiations with CA, showcasing his ability to navigate complex governance and commercial landscapes.
CA Chair Mike Baird highlighted Greenberg’s reputation as a driver of commercial growth and innovation, describing him as the ideal candidate to lead the organisation during a period of significant opportunity. Baird also commended Hockley’s leadership, noting his contributions to securing a robust broadcast rights deal, a long-term content strategy, and a strong organisational foundation.
As Greenberg prepares to assume the role, he faces the task of navigating the evolving cricket landscape while ensuring Australian cricket maintains its competitive edge globally. The current MOU, due for renegotiation in 2028, will be a key milestone in his tenure, requiring continued collaboration between stakeholders.
Greenberg’s appointment signals Cricket Australia’s commitment to strategic growth and innovation, setting the stage for a new era in one of Australia’s most beloved sports.
