TCR Australia Will Join Supercars On Australian Grand Prix Bill
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) has announced that Tour Car Racing (TCR) Australia will host its season opener at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 alongside the Supercars.
The two-litre platform, which penned an initial one-year deal with the AGPC, is one of the fastest-growing motorsport categories globally with over 30 different TCR championships around the world and will kick the season off at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit from 12th to 15th March.
The announcement is the first piece of the TCR Australia 2020 calendar and confirms that plans to kick off the year at the Adelaide 500 have been abandoned, following an understood objection from Supercars.
AGPC Chief Executive, Andrew Westacott, is looking forward to continuing to enhance the fan experience with the presence of a TCR Australia round.

“AGPC is always looking to inspire the next generation of drivers and being able to showcase a new Australian motorsport category not just nationally, but globally, is such a fantastic opportunity for all involved.”
TCR Australia’s Managing Director, Matt Braid, was delighted to confirm the sport signed a deal for the first round of the 2020 TCR Australia Series to be staged at the Formula 1 ® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020, adding “the Australian Racing Group is extremely pleased to announce our involvement with the Formula 1 ® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020.
“The Grand Prix is the largest and most significant international motorsport event held in Australia, and it will be fantastic to showcase the TCR category on the Albert Park circuit as part of the event.
“TCR teams, drivers and manufacturers are all excited by the opportunity to race over the Grand Prix weekend and we look forward to providing some action-packed racing for the fans at the track and the audiences watching event broadcast.”
Race formats are yet to finalised although it is expected that it will closely follow the sprint style races utilised by TCR Australia and the majority of championships across the globe.
