Supercars Unveils New Formats for 2025 Season

image

Supercars has announced significant strategic shifts for the 2025 season that are poised to benefit the entire sports business ecosystem. With substantial attendance at events like the 2022 Bathurst 1000, which drew nearly 196,000 fans despite challenging weather, and viewership reaching an average of 1.89 million on major broadcasts, these changes are crucial for sustaining and growing interest in the sport. By enhancing fan engagement and providing new opportunities for sponsors, Supercars is adapting to the evolving landscape and ensuring its long-term viability in a competitive market.

Introduction of New Formats

Central to the 2025 season will be the introduction of a Finals Series. This series aims to create a more competitive environment by allowing the top teams to compete for the championship in a format reminiscent of finals structures seen in other sports. This shift is expected to increase viewer interest and participation, providing a clear pathway to the championship for leading teams.

Diverse Race Formats

In addition to the Finals Series, Supercars will introduce a variety of race formats throughout the season. The addition of an Enduro Cup and Sprint events will diversify the competition, catering to different racing strategies and team strengths. By incorporating multiple formats, Supercars aims to attract a broader audience and maintain excitement throughout the season.

Impact on Teams and Fans

These changes are anticipated to have a considerable impact on both teams and fans. Teams will need to adapt their strategies to succeed across various formats, which could lead to increased investment in resources and technology. For fans, the new formats promise a more dynamic viewing experience, with the potential for unexpected outcomes and heightened drama during races.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard said: “Our fans wanted more excitement, more unpredictability, and a true test to find the best champion. The Finals series will do just that. With points resetting and drivers being eliminated, we’ve created an environment where the pressure will be at its highest, and only the best will prevail.”
