St George Illawarra Dragons Partner with Wollongong Homeless Hub for Charity Raffle

image

The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced that their long-standing partnership with Wollongong Homeless Hub & Housing Services will be the central focus of this Saturday’s 50-50 Charity Raffle at WIN Stadium.

The initiative is a mechanical necessity for the club’s community outreach program, leveraging match-day foot traffic to generate critical funding for local crisis support.

Wollongong Homeless Hub has been a cornerstone of the Illawarra region for nearly 40 years. The organisation provides a spectrum of support, including emergency, medium-term, and long-term accommodation, alongside essential services for individuals and families facing or at risk of homelessness.

Addressing the Housing Crisis

The partnership comes at a time of heightened demand for secure housing in the region. The funds raised through the raffle will directly support several key programs:

  • Emergency Accommodation: Immediate housing solutions for those in acute crisis.
  • Outreach Services: Mobile support to engage with the region’s most vulnerable populations.
  • Pathway to Stability: Long-term guidance and housing support to help transition individuals out of homelessness.

The Dragons have urged fans to participate in the raffle, emphasising that even small contributions collectively drive significant impact.

The 50-50 Raffle Model

The 50-50 Charity Raffle is a staple of Australian sports business philanthropy.

Under the model:

  • 50% of the total pool is awarded to one lucky ticket holder.
  • 50% of the total pool is donated directly to the charity partner, in this case, the Wollongong Homeless Hub.
