St. George Donate Sky Deck To Giants Cheer Squad

St. George Bank confirmed its commitment to the GWS Giants over the weekend, by donating its corporate Sky Deck to 45 members of the Giants cheer squad.

The Giants’ return to the 2020 AFL Premiership season following the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the suspension of the season saw 350 Giants members and corporate partners in attendance, across function rooms, as per the NSW Governments’ approval.

St. George Bank general manager, Ross Miller, said his team was happy to give up their corporate box for the ‘Orange Army’, the GWS Giants cheer squad.

“Sport plays such a significant role in our community,” Miller said.

“We recognise how the AFL has had an extremely tough season, adapting to an evolving situation, and taking significant measures to prioritise the health and welfare of players and the wider community.

“It is the fans who are the lifeblood of clubs like the Giants, which is why our team were only too happy to get behind the ‘Orange Army’… to hand-over seats at the St. George Sky Deck and allow them to get behind their team this weekend,” he said.

Giants chief executive, David Matthews, said St. George is demonstrating the strong culture within the Giants family.

“St. George are tremendous long-term partners of the Giants and we’re very grateful for what they’ve done for some of our most passionate members,” Matthews said.

“They saw an opportunity to give back to the local community and had no hesitation in giving up their seats to our cheer squad.

“We’re delighted to be able to welcome back some of our members and partners to the footy and this gesture by St. George demonstrates the strong culture that exists amongst the wider Giants family,” he said.

In further support of the grassroots football community, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, St. George Bank last month announced it is doubling down on funding for the St. George Footy Grant 2020 Program to a total of $200,000.

The program is open to players, families and friends of teams, coaches, and volunteers, aiming to benefit grassroots football communities on and off the field financially.
