St.George Bank Reaches 40 Year Milestone With Multi-Million Dollar Extension Of The Dragons

In a feat not previously achieved by any other bank in Australia, St.George has extended its sponsorship as major partner of the dragons for a further two-years, taking their partnership to well over 40 years in total.

The deal, which is estimated to be worth around $2 million, will include both the men’s and women’s Premiership teams.

As the St.George Illawarra Women’s team prepare to enter their second NRL Women’s Premiership season, St.George Bank threw a secret celebration at their Barangaroo headquarters on Thursday, with the men’s squad waiting patiently to cheer on the women’s team in a secret surprise as they entered the room.

It’s the first in two years both teams have been together, where St.George also announced a two-year partnership extension to support both men, women, grassroots and the broader football community.

Cathy Yuncken, General Manager for St.George Private Wealth, has been championing and mentoring many of the team since the partnership began in 2018.

“St.George was an advocate for the NRL to establish a women’s competition since the journey began, supporting the Dragons to apply for a license to participate and also supporting them off the field with career opportunities, travel and assisting them with their season kit.”

“But more importantly our partnership demonstrates national support by way of St.George and the Dragons being one of the founding NRL clubs leading the way for women in sport, and gender equality more broadly,” Yuncken said.

This season the St George Illawarra Dragons NRL Women’s premiership will once again take on the New Zealand Warriors, Brisbane Broncos and Sydney Roosters.

The formidable line up includes eight Jillaroos, four Kiwi Ferns, eight New South Wales Blues, three Queensland Maroons and two Dally M Player of the Year medals to boot.

Ross Miller, General Manager of St.George Bank, said female participation in league remains one of the fastest-growing categories and it is crucial to continue to build on this platform.

“Corporate Australia can have an important role to play in supporting the 180,000 girls and women across Australia who are now playing league.”

“Over 60,000 of those young women are at the grassroots level and Australia now sees over 110 female league competitions across the nation,” he said.

The sport is also seeing a year-on-year increase in female coaches, referees volunteers and sports trainers.

The Women’s Premiership will begin the first weekend in September in conjunction with the NRL finals series.
