Singapore Airlines Make A Return To Formula One

Singapore Airlines have extended its agreement with Formula One, continuing as the Singapore Grand Prix title sponsor for another three years.

The airline will start its deal extension with this year’s race held from September 30th to October 2nd, remaining as title sponsor until 2028.

Singapore Airlines first signed as the title sponsor of the race back in 2014 for four years, which was later extended both in 2028 and 2020 for a further two years.

The latest deal would see the airline and the Singapore Grand Prix work collaboratively not only on a tourism and sporting basis but also in terms of sustainability.

Formula 1 managing director of commercial, Mr Brandon Snow, said: “We are pleased that Singapore Airlines will continue to be the title sponsor of the Singapore Grand Prix for another three years.”

“The Singapore Grand Prix is the original F1 night race, an iconic Formula 1 event loved by fans and drivers, and it returns to the calendar after two years away.

“This year’s race will see further use of renewable energy and sustainable materials.

“The commitments from Singapore Airlines towards sustainable aviation fuels reflect the continued alignment between all partners and Formula 1 in reducing environmental impact,” said Snow.

Singapore has not hosted the Formula One Grand Prix since 2019 as a result of the pandemic, however in January F1 agreed to a six-year contract with Singapores’ original night race, making it the longest contract extension ever in F1.

As for Singapore airlines, the growing popularity of F1 and the return of the sport to their home soil will possibly aid the national carrier in recovering to pre-pandemic levels.

last month, the passenger capacity of the airline rose to 50% of pre-pandemic levels, and while increasing due to the summer travel season, is only expected to reach 61% of pre-pandemic levels.

Singapore Airlines executive vice president, Mr Lee Lik Hsin, said: “This year’s highly anticipated Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix will be an important milestone for Singapore, marking the return of a major international sporting event to the city after a two-year disruption due to the pandemic.”

“The race will be warmly welcomed by Singapore residents and visitors alike and enhance our reputation as a global city.

“SIA’s extension of its title sponsorship signals our continued support for both tourism and sports, complements the expansion of our global network, and will bolster Singapore’s recovery as a key international air hub,” said Hsin.
