hooting Australia will appoint a general manager for commercial and marketing as it seeks to expand its revenue streams and broaden brand and marketing activity ahead of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2021.

The position comes as the country starts to rebuild its job market following the onset of Coronavirus pandemic.

While the latest ABS data shows Australia has regained about half the jobs it lost since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the workforce remains down almost 18% on pre-pandemic levels.

Shooting Australia, CEO, Luke van Kempen, said of the states and territories who have been able to re-boot the sport at club level, 30 percent of club members haven’t been able to return to the range.

“This is going to have an impact on clubs’ ability to generate income and keep themselves afloat,” van Kempen said.

“Across all industries, we have to look at new ways of operating that can reduce costs and consider innovative revenue opportunities in order to have a sustainable future,” he said.

The new role is an exciting development for the sport as it seeks to capitalise on new initiatives, such as the Shooting Australia TV live stream channel and the impact of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The successful applicant will develop and execute a sales strategy to generate new income streams, maximise commercial opportunities, oversee content generation and prepare an innovative communications strategy.

“The general manager for commercial and marketing will hold a key senior management position and lead a team of four reports as we strive to be a unifying leader in creating a strong and vibrant target shooting sports community that enables Australian athletes to perform among the best in the world,” van Kempen said.

“Shooting has been one of Australia’s most successful sports at major international competitions for many years, and this role represents a great opportunity for an inventive and dynamic individual to help elevate our sports to new heights,” he said.

The move sets the tone for sporting associations and clubs alike, demonstrating how sharing resources and ideas can produce a positive outcome from the pandemic.

The organisation has also recently appointed a development coordinator to create and deliver programs to drive target shooting sports participation at a club level in South Australia and says plans are underway to build stronger athlete pathways and talent specific support.

Shooting Australia headquarters are based in Adelaide however, the general manager for commercial and marketing position is also open to candidates who can perform the role while being based outside of South Australia.

Applications for the position will close at midnight on Sunday, October 11.
