ollowing a cyber-attack on Eleven Sports coverage, Matches from the third tier of Italian club football, Serie C, will be shown for free.

Matches will be broadcast via social media platforms including YouTube, and Facebook, and on the Eleven Sports official website, until technical problems are solved.

While Eleven Sports works to implement additional cybersecurity measures, free streaming is expected to continue until at least the end of November.

Eleven sports operate an OTT-only model in Italy, covering sports that typically do not receive mainstream coverage.

Coverage of the Serie C was interrupted by a blackout as a result of the cyber-attacks, police have now commenced an investigation.

Lega Pro president, Francesco Ghirelli, said: “The situation is very complex and Eleven Sports is working intensively on a solution; in the meantime, it is essential to ensure that the matches are regularly broadcast,”

“For this reason, until the issue is resolved, it will be possible to see the matches for free.

“We owe it to the fans who love Serie C football, to sponsors for whom we must ensure adequate visibility, and to club presidents to alleviate the enormous difficulties arising from the pandemic.”

Lega Pro is the governing body responsible for operating the league.

Ghirelli also told Italian news agency ANSA that while Lega Pro’s focus is on providing fans with free-to-air coverage, negotiations are underway with pay-television broadcaster Sky Italia for future coverage.

Eleven sports typically offers subscriptions for $13 per month, subscribers will be offered compensation for the interruption.
