Saints Legend Nick Riewoldt’s Plan To Engage Kids Missing Football

St Kilda Saints great Nick Riewoldt is aiming to stream free of charge football lessons and sessions for young Australians missing out on Auskick sessions.

This plan comes following the beginning waves of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) restrictions that are seeing young families across Australia forced to remain indoors and all junior and senior football cancelled or suspended.

“I was watching Catherine doing a live Instagram workout on Tuesday and thought wouldn’t it be great to do the same for kids around the country who can’t play this weekend,” Riewoldt said in an interview with foxfooty.com.au.

“I understand everyone is limited in terms of space.

“This will be from home.

“Not everyone will have a footy so we will keep it generic.

“My boys and me will run a backyard session.

“People can tune in and it gives parents 30 minutes out of the day they can lock into something,” he said.

Riewoldt said he has pitched the idea to AFL CEO, Gillon McLachlan, who reportedly gave approval for the sessions and began working to plan the logistics.

“We are still working out the streaming details and logistics and talking to the AFL, but I can’t wait to give it a go,” Riewoldt said.

“I’m hoping we can start this weekend but if not, it will be soon.

“All they need is a footy or even rolled up socks and away we go.

“I know it’s tough out there at the moment with no footy.

“As a first time Auskick parent last year seeing the fun all the boys and girls had, the last thing we want to do is deprive them of that,” he said.

This concept of free online workout sessions is something that several gyms and fitness stars have begun rolling out over the past couple of weeks as isolation measures increase in an attempt to slow the spread of the Coronavirus.

These free sessions are appearing on several social media and streaming services such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitch, with Barrys Bootcamp Australia having over 350 people participating in a 30-minute body weight workout on Instagram live.

More and more companies and celebrities are getting involved as the Coronavirus isolation restrictions continue to strengthen, with Chris Hemsworth and several others revealing their workout plans for all those refined to their homes.
