Real Madrid is enhancing its technological capabilities in preparation for the historic National Football League (NFL) regular season game, set to take place at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium later this year.
The club has confirmed a multi-year extension of its partnership with Cisco, solidifying the technology giant’s role as Real Madrid’s official technology partner.
This renewed agreement will see an expansion of technology not only within the revamped Bernabéu but also at the Real Madrid City training complex.
Commenting on the partnership, chief executive of Cisco Spain and Portugal, Andreu Vilamitjana, said: “Networks are at the heart of digitalisation, which is transforming all sectors, including sport and entertainment.”
“Three years ago, the new Bernabéu stadium set a global benchmark in converged connectivity thanks to Cisco technology.
“Now, it will once again be a pioneer in delivering immersive, sustainable, and cost-effective interactions,” Vilamitjana said.
Notable upgrades include the installation of Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, a robust 100Gbps network connection to the stadium, and an artificial-intelligence (AI) ready data centre located on-site.
Cisco and Real Madrid have collaborated closely on the substantial redevelopment of the Bernabéu.
Their partnership has resulted in the integration of cutting-edge networking technology within the stadium’s design, facilitating a seamless operation across various functionalities—from backend processes and public-facing Wi-Fi networks to sophisticated content creation and audiovisual features.
Such alliances have become increasingly prevalent in major stadiums worldwide, serving as crucial drivers of operational efficiencies and enhancing fan experiences, while also realising new revenue opportunities.
A comparable relationship exists between Tottenham Hotspur and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), emphasizing the trend within the industry.
The enhancement of Real Madrid’s infrastructure to encompass the training complex is set to unveil a plethora of new opportunities both on and off the pitch.
Furthermore, Real Madrid City functions as the technological command centre for the entire organisation, encompassing operations at the Bernabéu, thus highlighting the critical nature of this upgrade.
Looking ahead, the Santiago Bernabéu is prepared to host the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders on the 16th of November, 2025, marking a milestone for both the venue and the sport’s international expansion.
