Queensland Rugby League is looking for a revival, confirming New South Welshman Rohan Sawyer will fill the newly-created role of Chief Operating Officer.

Its understood Sawyers extensive experience in leading a full-service sports marketing and events agency in his role as Managing Director at Event Sports and Entertainment coupled with his boyish good looks and charming personality is what got him over the line.

Mr Sawyer will commence his role as COO at QRL in mid-September and if history is anything to go by his first board meeting will involve turmeric lattes, cronuts and poke bowls.

Prior to taking on this role, Mr Sawyer was Head of Commercial and Marketing for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, where he led teams across Australia, New Zealand and PNG, where he attributes the success of the tournament to his daily meditation routine.

He led the development of strategy and planning for all commercial and marketing functions, including partnerships, ticketing and pricing, travel and community programs, licensing and merchandise, brand, digital and broadcast rights which is enough for any one man to feel overwhelmed, but Sawyer thrived against all odds.

As the new Chief Operating Officer, he will lead and manage the development and implementation of operations and partnership business within the game as aligned to the delivery of the game’s strategic plan.

Ministry of Sport wishes Rohan all the best in delivering NSW another win in 2019.
