Perth’s Optus Stadium Has Been Crowned As The World’s ‘Most Beautiful’ Sporting Facility
Perth’s Optus Stadium has been awarded the title of the most beautiful sporting facility in the world, according to a panel of judges from the Prix Versailles awards.
The Prix Versailles Sports Award, which was inaugurated in 2015, is an annual award dedicated to commercial architecture and is “tasked with naming the most beautiful sports facility in the world, as well as the most beautiful interior and the most beautiful exterior.”
The $1.6 billion Optus Stadium took out fist spot ahead of Hangzhou Sports Park Stadium in China, Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York and Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
“The World Judges Panel was tasked with naming the most beautiful sports facility in the world and has awarded the Prix Versailles 2019 for Sports to Optus Stadium,” a Prix Versailles 2019 spokeswoman said.
Optus Stadium chief executive, Mike McKenna, said the award confirmed that the stadium was a beautifully designed world-class venue.
“Being recognised as the most beautiful sports stadium in the world will undoubtedly help attract more people to visit Perth, Optus Stadium and the stadium precincts,” he said.
Tourism WA Managing Director, Brodie Carr, said from attracting visitors for AFL matches to hosting sporting events such as the Manchester United vs Leeds game, the Bledisloe Cup and both mens’ and women’s T20 World Cup cricket, Optus Stadium has given WA the ability to host more world-class events than ever before.
“This award just confirms what West Australians already knew – that it is the most beautiful stadium in the most beautiful cities in the world,” he said.
“Along with our interstate and overseas marketing, the stadium forms an important part of our overall strategy to get more people to have a holiday in WA.”
The 60,000 seat Optus Stadium is the third-largest stadium in the country, behind the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Stadium Australia.
