NRLW Given Green Light For September Start

The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has approved the continuation of the NRLW competition in 2020, confirming the season will start in September.

The NRLW will remain a four-team competition, with the grand final set to be played on the same day as the NRL grand final, Sunday, October 25.

ARLC chairman, Peter V’landys, said the NRL is proud to continue to support the NRLW competition, also announcing the confirmation of a stand-alone women’s State of Origin match, taking place on Friday, November 13.

“The women’s game is a very important element of rugby league,” V’landys said.

“We are very proud of our achievements in the women’s game and we should be providing it the significance it deserves.

“I want to thank the clubs for their commitment to women’s sport and the players themselves for their understanding as we worked through this process.

“I also want to thank our broadcast partners Channel Nine and Foxtel for their ongoing commitment to the women’s game,” he said.

NRLW games will continue to be broadcast by the NRL’s broadcast partners, Foxtel and Channel Nine, as part of the NRL’s new broadcast agreement signed for the return of the men’s competition on May 28.
