The Queensland Rugby League has unveiled a new NRLQ series that aims to reshape the development landscape for young rugby league talent.
This series will feature a home-and-away round robin format, engaging Under 20 teams from the Brisbane Broncos, Dolphins, Gold Coast Titans, and North Queensland Cowboys.
The initiative aims to fill a gap in the elite development pathways available to Queensland clubs, particularly following the conclusion of the QRL’s junior representative competitions, such as the Mal Meninga Cup for Under 19s.
One of the primary objectives of this new series is to establish a competitive balance between Queensland and New South Wales NRL clubs.
Currently, NSW clubs benefit from participation in the NSWRL Jersey Flegg competition, a scenario that Queensland seeks to replicate with this innovative approach.
This competition is part of a broader pathways review that aims to enhance the junior development system, ensuring a stronger future for rugby league in the region.
Several matches will coincide with NRL fixtures, allowing for greater visibility and engagement from fans.
