Nine Secures Exclusive Premier League And Emirates FA Cup Rights In Major Sporting Milestone

Nine has officially secured exclusive Australian broadcasting rights for two of the world’s premier football competitions: the Premier League and the Emirates FA Cup, through a recent agreement with Optus Sport and the Premier League.

Commencing in the 2025/26 season, all matches will be available for live and on-demand streaming on Stan Sport.

Notably, for the first time, the Premier League will also be broadcast in 4K, promising Australian viewers an enhanced viewing experience.

This multi-season agreement not only encompasses the Premier League and FA Cup but also adds Japan’s J.League and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) to Stan Sport’s portfolio.

In addition with these developments, Nine has also secured rights to the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025™, which kicks off on 3 July. This acquisition is a strategic boost to Nine’s extensive sports programming across digital, streaming, and free-to-air platforms.

Emphasising the significance of this move as an important moment for the company’s digital expansion, Nine’s chief executive officer, Matt Stanton, said: “The Premier League is the most-watched football league on the planet, and alongside the Emirates FA Cup, this acquisition reinforces Nine’s position as the home of sport in Australia.”

“We are proud to deliver these iconic competitions to Australian audiences through Stan Sport,” Stanton expressed.

Stanton underscored the capability of Nine to generate excitement and audience growth, reflecting on the more than 20 million Australians engaging with Nine’s platforms monthly.

Acknowledging the collaboration with Optus, Stanton praised Stephen Rue and his team for their efforts in facilitating a smooth transition for football fans migrating from Optus Sport to Stan.

CEO of Optus, Stephen Rue, reiterated the importance of finding a suitable platform for Optus Sport content. He expressed confidence in Stan’s ability to provide uninterrupted access to football for existing subscribers, recognising Nine’s expertise in delivering high-quality sports programming.

ManagingdDirector of Streaming and Broadcast at Nine, Amanda Laing, highlighted the significance of this deal as a substantial enhancement for Stan Sport, integrating the Premier League and Emirates FA Cup with existing offerings like the UEFA Champions League, Grand Slam tennis, and rugby coverage.

“It’s a line-up built for the next era of sport, reaching Australians across every screen,” she noted, with the addition of 4K viewing elevating the experience further.

With sporting events on the horizon, including the British & Irish Lions Tour, Wimbledon, and the Winter Olympics, this acquisition lends additional strength to an already dynamic sporting calendar.

Coverage kicks off with the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025™ on 3 July, leading into the FA Community Shield on August 11, featuring Liverpool versus Crystal Palace at Wembley, streamed exclusively on Stan Sport.

The 2025/26 Premier League season will then begin on 16 August, with select matches available in 4K.

Communications will commence today to ensure a seamless transition for Optus Sport customers to Stan Sport, which will now include the J.League and NWSL in its expanding international football offerings.
