NFL Switches UK Broadcasts To ITV

The National Football League (NFL) has announced a three-year partnership with free-to-air broadcasting network, ITV, with Laura Woods, Osi Umenyiora and Jason Bell being the broadcast team for weekly shows, London Games and the Super Bowl.

The deal will see ITV kick-off its coverage on 9 September when the Los Angeles Rams meet with the Buffalo Bills, which will be the first of several hour-long weekly shows.

The team will also travel to the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, where the network will produce live coverage of the season’s biggest game.

Commenting on the deal, ITV director of sport, Niall Sloane, said: “This deal will bring to ITV viewers the very best of the NFL each week in our highlights shows throughout the season as well as key live games.”

“We’re delighted to be able to offer viewers, free to air, across our channels as well as the ITV Hub, the unique spectacle and action the NFL brings,” he said.

NFL UK managing director, Henry Hodgson, added: “This is another significant milestone for the NFL in this country.”

“We have enjoyed seven fantastic years of NFL coverage on BBC TV and the time is right to take advantage of the opportunities offered by a new partnership with ITV.

“When you look at the development of the NFL in the UK in recent years – with momentum behind fan growth, more London games, successful British players in the NFL, the launch of an Academy and a charitable foundation – this announcement is another sign of our ambition to grow and develop the sport in the UK,” he said.

Additionally, ITV’s coverage will be broadcast on STV in Scotland and Virgin Media in Ireland, with programming being available on demand through ITV Hub, ITV Hub+, STV Player and VM Player.

The deal comes after the NFL announced a three-year deal with Nielsen, to provide analytics for Thursday Night Football.

Tickets are now available for the fourth annual Women In Sport Summit, which will provide real stories, skills and career moves, from administrators to athletes, and will give a platform for honest conversations and exclusive networking opportunities, with game-changing discussions about the growth, value, and the future of women in sport.
