he NFL has confirmed the Super Bowl in February will host up to 22,000 fans at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida.

The NFL said 7,500 of the 22,000 tickets will be given to COVID-19 vaccinated healthcare workers from the Tampa Bay and central Florida region, as well as all 32 teams being offered the chance to select healthcare workers from their communities to attend.

The remaining 14,500 tickets will be released in a sale to the general public closer to the February 7 date of the NFL Super Bowl LV.

Speaking of the free tickets to vaccinated healthcare workers, NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, said: “These dedicated health care workers continue to put their own lives at risk to serve others, and we owe them our ongoing gratitude.”

“We hope in a small way that this initiative will inspire our country and recognise these true American heroes.

“This is also an opportunity to promote the importance of vaccination and appropriate health practices, including wearing masks in public settings,” he said.

The NFL’s attendance policies throughout 2021 have been dependant on the rules in each respective US state and varied for each location with different rules governing crowds at events.

Raymond James Stadium, which is the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, did not allow over 20,000 fans at any point during the season, despite the state of Florida permitting stadiums to operate at full capacity since October, meaning the venue was able to hold up to 75,000 fans.

Despite the lack of restrictions from the state of Florida, none of the state’s three NFL teams allowed their respective venues to reach max capacity over the course of the season.

Discussing the legality of if any Super Bowl ticket holder were to contract COVID-19, the Raymond James Stadium said: “An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.”

“COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death.

“According to the CDC, senior citizens and those with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.

“By entering the stadium and stadium grounds, holder voluntarily assumes all risks related to exposure to COVID-19,” the Raymond James Stadium said.
