New Head Of Optus Sport Announced

Optus has announced Howard Rees as the head of Optus Sport, a newly created position which sees him run the streaming platform.

Rees joins Optus Sport after working as Foxtel’s director of content strategy and will oversee a team of around 100 people.

Additionally, Rees will report to Optus vice president of TV, content and product development, Clive Dickens, who said Rees will lead content acquisition, production and product strategy as the platform prepares to broadcast the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“Howard’s deep knowledge of and global experience leading content strategy and sporting rights deals at SKY in the UK and more recently as director of strategy – content at Foxtel working across Foxtel, Fox Sports, Kayo and Binge was precisely the expertise we sought in a candidate to lead the Optus Sport team,” Dickens said.

The announcement comes after Optus Sport won the exclusive rights to broadcast German football in Australia.
