NBC Sports Claims Women’s Tour de France Rights

NBC Sports has won the exclusive US broadcast rights for the women’s Tour de France as part of a two-year deal with the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO).

The deal will see the upcoming Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift broadcast in the US on Peacock and CNBC from 24-31 July.

NBC Sports already holds the broadcast rights for other major international cycling events in partnership with the ASO, including the men’s Tour de France.

NBC Sports vice president of programming, Michael Perman, said: “We’re excited to further our relationship with the Amaury Sport Organisation by adding this prestigious event to our cycling portfolio, and to showcase the exceptional athletes who will be competing for the biggest prize in women’s cycling.”

Elsewhere, the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift is set to return to the eight-day structure of previous women’s Tour de France events, also having the largest total prize pool in its history, with €250,000 (AUD$377,000) in total available, including €50,000 (AUD$75,444) for the winner.

Race director, Marion Rousse, said: “I am delighted that NBC Sports is joining the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift broadcasters.”

“For the two first editions of the event, NBC Sports will provide women’s racing with the know-how it displays each year in its coverage of the Tour de France and bring the excitement of the race to fans across the United States.

“NBC Sport thus participates in the birth of possible vocations among young women, in a country where female cycling already occupies an important place,” Rousse said.
