The NBA’s streaming rights have been a hot topic of conversation recently, with some of the biggest names in streaming showing an interest in acquiring the rights to broadcast NBA games.

Apple, Amazon, and NBC Universal have all expressed an interest in securing NBA content for their streaming platforms, which include Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and Peacock, respectively.

However, the NBA’s existing TV deals with Disney and Warner Bros Discovery are still in effect until April 2024.

If they waive this option, it will open the door for Apple, Amazon, and NBC Universal to begin negotiations with the NBA.

Disney and Warner Bros Discovery have shown a keen interest in renegotiating their broadcast rights deals to continue showing live NBA games on their networks, but the NBA may choose to license its broadcast rights to dedicated streaming services instead.

Streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime and Apple TV have seen a massive surge in popularity over the past few years, making them a lucrative opportunity for first-time bidders such as Apple and Amazon to explore.

NBC is also looking to regain the NBA’s broadcast rights after a 20-year hiatus and has expressed an interest in exclusively showing live NBA regular season games on Peacock.
