In a progressive move by the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Jenny Boucek has been signed as an assistant coach.
Jenny is the first woman to hold a coaching position with the franchise in its 38-year history and just the third woman to hold an assistant coaching job in NBA history.
As the global movement of inclusiveness spreads from corporate conglomerates to sporting organisations, Mavericks Head Coach, Rick Carlisle, spoke highly of Boucek, saying she has earned respect and has the qualifications necessary to make it in the NBA.
“I’m a big proponent of women getting equal opportunity in the NBA,” Carlisle said.
“It’s important to be qualified and the ones that are qualified are the ones making an impact and are going to make more of an impact as time goes on.
“That’s the way it should be.”
Prior to joining an NBA staff, Boucek served as an assistant coach or head coach for almost two decades in the WNBA.
From 2006-2009, she was the head coach of the Sacramento Monarchs and from 2015-2017, she led the Seattle Storm.
Before turning to coaching, Boucek played in the WNBA and in Iceland after a four-year collegiate career at the University of Virginia.
