NBA 2K League Names PlayStation 5 Official Console

The NBA 2K League has announced a multi-year partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment, with the PlayStation 5 (PS5) becoming the official console of the esports competition.

With the 23-team competition set to begin in May, the partnership, which is a first-of-its-kind for the PS5, NBA 2K League president, Brendan Donohue, said PS5 will also serve as the presenting partner of the upcoming NBA 2KL Three for All Showdown, an online 3-on-3 tournament in April.

“NBA 2K League players are the best in the world at what they do, so it’s only fitting that they compete on the best gaming equipment in the world,” Donohue said.

“PlayStation is a long-standing global leader in interactive entertainment, and we are thrilled to be able to leverage their gaming expertise and technology to create the optimal experience for NBA 2K League players and fans,” he said.

As part of the deal, NBA 2K League said it plans to host global fan tournaments featuring league-related prizing through PlayStation’s Competition Center, and the two parties will work to create a custom content series to run during NBA 2K League broadcasts and across social and digital channels.

Elsewhere in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors and the Chase Center have announced a multi-property partnership with the Clorox Company.

Clorox will become the official disinfectant produce of the Golden State Warriors, Chase Center, Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden Guardians, and Warriors Gaming Squad.

The Clorox Company vice president of Out of Home, Heath Rigsby, said: “For more than 100 years Clorox has been a trusted brand in the home, and we’re proud to extend our commitment by teaming up with the Golden State Warriors and Chase Center.”

“Disinfection plays an important role in helping to create a cleaner and safer experience for everyone from staff to players to fans,” Rigsby said.

Chase Center general manager, Kim Stone, said: “The Warriors are committed to ensuring Chase Centre features the safest and cleanest indoor environment possible.”

“We’ve seen a significant shift over the last 10 months around venue health and hygiene.

“As we look to the eventual return of fans, Clorox’s world-class products, Chase Center’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and our dedication to adhering to stringent cleaning and disinfecting protocols is a strong combination designed to enhance everyone’s safety at Chase Center,” Stone said.
