elbourne United have announced the appointment of former Western Bulldogs chief commercial officer, Nick Truelson.

The Melbourne-based NBL club recently won the NBL championship, and will now see Truelson replace outgoing CEO, Vince Crivelli, who has been with the organisation since 2013, in August.

Melbourne United chairman, Simon Hupfeld, said Truelson brings extensive experience from national commercial roles both in and out of professional sport.

“After winning our second championship as Melbourne United this year, the club has quickly turned its attention to building on our momentum to accelerate the development and expansion of our organisation,” Hupfeld said.

“Our aspiration is to become the most respected sporting organisation in our region, and we are thrilled to have Nick Truelson at the helm to steer us towards this goal.

“Our past CEO, Vince Crivelli, has worked tirelessly over the last seven years to leave our club in an enviable position with an extraordinarily talented, hard-working and committed team both on and off the court.

“All our supporters should feel very optimistic about our future,” he said.

On his new appointment, Truelson said: “I am thrilled to become the new CEO of Melbourne United.”

“The club and the NBL are embarking on an exciting growth platform and the recent championship win is a testament to all involved.

“I am looking forward to working closely with the board, staff, coaches, and players on continuing to build the brand of Melbourne United into one of Australia’s most exciting fan centric sporting properties.

“The NBL has grown phenomenally over the last five years and basketball is currently the second most participated sport in Australia.

“Together, we can work on creating development pathways in our community and providing everyone at the club with opportunities in making Melbourne United a destination club on and off the court.

“I am committed to ensuring every area of the club has the support and opportunity to thrive from the fans to our community and our people,” Truelson said.
