English Premier League (EPL) club, Manchester United, have topped Sportico’s valuations list, worth USD$4.65 billion (AUD$5.98 billion), with an enterprise value at USD$3.4 billion (AUD$4.4 billion).

United are followed by Liverpool (USD$4.14 billion/AUD$5.33 billion), Manchester City (USD$4 billion/AUD$5.2 billion),  Chelsea (USD$3.35 billion/AUD$4.31 billion), Arsenal (USD$3.06 billion/AUD$3.94 billion) and then Tottenham Hotspur in sixth place (USD$2.85 billion/AUD$3.66 billion) and Everton in seventh (USD$525 million/AUD$675 million), more than 80% lower than Spurs, with the bottom 14 teams in the EPL worth a combined USD$3.7 billion (AUD$4.7 billion).

United’s value is 26 times Burnley’s value, who rank as number 17 on the list of the 20 EPL teams, worth USD$180 million (AUD$232 million), with to-be-relegated Sheffield United coming in as the least valuable team in the league, valued at USD$60 million (AUD$77 million).

By comparison with Major League Baseball (MLB), the New York Yankees, who are the most valuable team in the league, are worth more than six times as much as the Miami Marlins, the lowest ranked MLB team, according to Sportico.

In the National Basketball Association (NBA), the gap between the top and bottom sides is four times, whilst the gap stands at three times in the National Football League (NFL).

The overall average of each team’s valuation was reportedly lifted by the proposed breakaway into the “Super League” competition, which the self-proclaimed “big-six” all initially agreed to be part of, seeking to create a closed-system league where they could not be relegated.
