The 2025 Magic Millions on the Gold Coast brought triumphs and unexpected challenges, reflecting the dynamic nature of the racing and bloodstock industry. From track issues to record-breaking yearling sales, the event highlighted the determination of its organisers and participants.
The Gold Coast Turf Club faced a significant setback leading up to The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday, as vandalism damaged the track. Evidence, including spray nozzles and mixing equipment, pointed to deliberate interference. GCTC Chairman Brett Cook expressed frustration, stating, “If it does turn out to be deliberate, which is increasingly likely, we’re very disappointed with a narrative suggesting it was our mistake.”
Despite this, a team of experts, including track manager Liam O’Keefe, worked diligently to repair the course. Senior jockeys and stewards later deemed the track safe, allowing the event to proceed.
However, heavy rain during race day postponed seven races, including the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas. These races were rescheduled for Friday evening under lights, marking a unique moment for the event and offering fans an exciting finish to the week.
The 2025 Gold Coast Yearling Sale showcased strong buyer interest, achieving record prices and underscoring the international demand for Australian bloodstock. The Home Affairs-Sunlight filly was a standout, sold for $3.2 million to Japanese trainer Mitsu Nakauchida, breaking the previous sale record.
“This filly is exceptional, physically and on pedigree,” Nakauchida said. “She represents everything we look for in a future racehorse.”
Other notable sales included a Snitzel filly from Sweet Sherry at $1.6 million and a Frankel filly for $900,000, further highlighting the quality on offer.
Key statistics from the sale include:
The sale continued to attract international buyers, with participants from Japan, the U.S., and Europe competing for premium lots. Vendors such as Coolmore Stud and Newgate Farm praised the level of interest and the quality of the catalogue.
“This year’s results are a testament to the strength of Australian bloodstock on the global stage,” said Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch.
