Geoff Allardice, the Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has announced his decision to step down, concluding a 13-year tenure that saw significant commercial growth and global market expansion for the sport.
Allardice, who joined the ICC in 2012 as General Manager of Cricket, was appointed CEO in 2021, during which he played a key role in enhancing cricket’s commercial footprint and financial sustainability.
Bringing experience from his role as Cricket Operations Manager at Cricket Australia, Allardice has been instrumental in securing major broadcasting deals, expanding commercial partnerships, and growing cricket’s presence in new and emerging markets. Under his leadership, the ICC has solidified its revenue streams through multi-billion-dollar media rights agreements, which have been crucial in funding the development of the sport globally.
Reflecting on his tenure, Allardice noted the ICC’s progress in ensuring sustainable revenue growth and enhancing cricket’s appeal in new markets.
With the ICC Board set to commence the search for a new CEO, the next leader will inherit an organisation with a strong financial foundation and increasing global traction. The future focus will likely be on expanding monetisation opportunities, leveraging digital platforms, and maximising cricket’s presence in untapped markets to sustain its commercial momentum.
