Huge Win For Grassroots Sport With SportsCube Winning The HYPE SPIN Accelerator Pitch Event
Ministry of Sport and the University of Queensland are thrilled to announce SportsCube as the winner of the 2019 Tech in Sport and HYPE SPIN Accelerator pitch event.
The HYPE UQ SPIN Accelerator is a global program that was developed to champion entrepreneurship and sports tech innovation and it’s a cause that Ministry of Sport is proud to support.
Held at Victoria Park Garden in Brisbane, SportsCube competed against 8 other sports tech startups from around the globe to secure first place and the $25,000 prize.
Founded in 2017, SportsCube is a sponsorship marketplace for grassroots sport that helps sporting organisations sell their sponsorship opportunities and save sponsors time and money by streamlining the acquisition process.
Tim McMurray, Co-founder and chief marketing officer at SportsCube, said winning the event is a huge deal to the team.
“We have all worked incredibly hard over the last few years, and to receive support from the leaders in sports tech is pretty rewarding.
“Considering that SportsCube was also selected into the accelerator as the quintessential underdog, coming out on top was a ridiculous experience,” he said.
By providing greater economic development, sustainability, and cultivation of the grassroots sporting ecosystem, SportsCube believes that sporting clubs will not only be able to provide better facilities, equipment, training, staff and reduce fees and barriers to participation, but the future sporting stars of the world will be better equipped to represent their countries.
Commenting on the prize money, Mr McMurray said: “The first thing we will do is remunerate a few individuals who have dedicated countless hours without compensation thus far.”
“After that, the rest will be invested in our tech.
“If bootstrapping and living off 2-minute noodles the last couple of years has taught us one thing, it’s how to be resourceful with every cent, so our prize money will go a long way.”
