Giannis Antetokounmpo, Filip Forsberg Announce MLS Team Ownership

National Basketball League champion, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and National Hockey League star, Filip Forsberg, have joined a growing list of star athletes investing in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The pair joins Nashville SC’s diverse ownership group, with the club’s most recent additions including actress Reese Witherspoon, and Tennessee Titans’ (NFL) Derrick Henry.

Additionally, Antetokounmpo’s investment is joined by his brothers, Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex, all of whom play basketball professionally.

Commenting on the deal, Nashville SC principal owner, John Ingram, said: “Filip and Giannis are not just amazing athletes–they are ambassadors for their respective sports, role models for millions and advocates in their hometowns and worldwide.”

Antetokounmpo added: “My father was a professional soccer player, and it was the first sport I fell in love with in Greece.”

“I’ve always had the dream of owning a soccer team, when my brothers and I explored Nashville SC, we knew it was a team and a city that we wanted to get involved with,” he said.

Forsberg shared the same sentiment, adding: “Our city is one big family and fanbase, and we support each other on and off the field.”

“Nashville SC has been such a great addition to our sports culture and joining the ownership group was an opportunity I wasn’t going to pass up,” he said.

Antetokounmpo and Forsberg join a long list of big names including Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, James Harden, and Kevin Durant who also have team stakes across the league.

This announcement comes after the MLS announced a partnership to deliver exciting opportunities for its fans, players, and sporting community.
