Formula E has announced a new long-term partnership with Saudi Arabian Airline (SAUDIA) as the all-electric racing series’ official airline partner ahead of its fifth season.

The partnership will also see the Saudi Arabian Airline become the race title partner of the inaugural Saudia Ad Diriyah E-Prix, which will be the first race of the 2018/19 season.

The announcement of the partnership comes as Saudi Arabia prepares to host this opening race in Riyadh in December.

Saudi Arabian Airlines Director, General Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser said: “The airline welcomes fans from around the world to come aboard with SAUDIA as we get set to wish the teams all the very best for the race and a new era of electric street racing, starting with the SAUDIA Ad Diriyah E-Prix.”

Formula E chief executive, Alejandro Agag said: “The partnership continues to show the appeal of Formula E on a global scale and I’m proud to welcome Saudia to the Formula E family as the excitement continues to build for the opening round of season five on 15th December.

“When you consider Saudi Arabia is opening up to international sports fans for the first time – and we have a new partner who can connect those fans to our series – it really is a strong addition to the championship.”

Fans attending the event will be able to use a brand-new verification system launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which will allow international tourists to electronically permit entry to the country through its online visa process.

This will be the first time a Formula E event has been hosted in the Middle East.
