NRL club the Cronulla Sharks have announced the exclusive naming rights to its currently named PointsBet Stadium will soon become available.
In 2019, the ASX-listed betting agency PointsBet secured a six-year exclusive naming rights deal for Sharks Stadium, which is set to conclude in December 2024.
PointsBet Australia CEO, Andrew Catterall, expressed the positive partnership they had with PointsBet Stadium but acknowledged the evolving community attitudes towards gambling advertising. “Stadium naming rights and perimeter signage are no longer suitable for the category in this changing landscape,” he stated. Catterall anticipated a forthcoming gambling advertising regime under the Albanese Government that embraces a safe and responsible approach.
Catterall assured ongoing support for the Sharks through alternative partnership avenues that align with community expectations within the reformed national gambling advertising regime.
Sharks CEO Dino Mezzatesta shared his optimism regarding the fruitful collaboration with PointsBet and expressed confidence in securing a new prominent brand to take over the exclusive stadium naming rights. He emphasised the exceptional commercial prospects the naming rights present for the right brand, offering category exclusivity and extensive engagement with millions of fans through various live events.
Describing Sharks Stadium (PointsBet Stadium) as a vibrant hub hosting a myriad of events, Mezzatesta highlighted the increasing popularity of the precinct, with new establishments like the Bay Central Woolooware and the Quest Apartment Hotel solidifying its appeal.
The Sharks Group, the entity behind Sharks Stadium (PointsBet Stadium), has enlisted the assistance of agency Sports and Entertainment 131 to identify a new naming rights partner. Expressions of interest are currently being accepted for this unique commercial opportunity.
