Emelda Douglas has been appointed as the new SVP of community affairs and executive director of the Astros Foundation.
With more than 25 years of expertise in philanthropic leadership and community development, her arrival marks a significant addition to the organisation.
Commenting on her appointment, Douglas, said: “I am excited to join the Astros organisation and continue the great work they are doing to support our community.”
“I am committed to working alongside the team, and our community partners, to raise funds and deliver meaningful impact from our programs to make Houston better,” she said.
Owner of the Houston Astros, chairman, Jim Crane, added: “The impact that the Astros Foundation has on our community is a major priority for us.”
“Emelda’s experience and leadership qualities will be a huge asset for us,” he said.
Douglas is tasked with furthering the Astros Foundation’s mission to positively impact the broader community and will be responsible for spearheading the foundation’s comprehensive strategy aimed at creating meaningful outcomes, particularly through innovative programs designed to support youth, families, veterans, and other underserved groups.
Her portfolio includes managing essential community partnerships, formulating and executing the foundation’s philanthropic strategies, and leading fundraising and sponsorship efforts that enhance stakeholder engagement and position the Astros as a dedicated community partner.
Before her tenure with the Astros, Douglas enjoyed a distinguished career in senior executive roles across various prestigious organisations.
She served as vice president for community development at the Greater Houston Community Foundation, held the title of senior vice president at Baker Ripley, and was the executive director for Susan G. Komen Houston.
Additionally, she served as chief development officer for the Houston Defender, a prominent African American media outlet.
Since 2016, she has also been running E. Douglas Strategies, LLC, a consultancy firm focused on nonprofit management and fundraising.
Douglas’s extensive experience and proven track record position her as a key player in advancing the Astros Foundation’s community initiatives, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to fostering positive change in Houston.
