The Dolphins have announced a community partnership with OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, aimed at addressing the dual challenges of food waste and regional food insecurity.
The collaboration comes as global statistics highlight that one-third of all food produced is lost or wasted annually, even as one in nine people worldwide face hunger.
OzHarvest has been at the forefront of this mission since 2004, driven by a purpose to ‘nourish our country’ through the delivery of over 320 million meals. The organisation currently rescues more than 250 tonnes of quality food every week from a network of 2,400 donors, redistributing it to 1,500 charities nationwide.
The partnership saw immediate action on Friday, 10 April 2026, as Dolphins players and staff volunteered at the Brisbane OzHarvest Kitchen. The team assisted in cooking and packing meals utilising “second life” food, ensuring surplus produce was successfully diverted from landfill to those in need.
Dolphins fans will have a direct opportunity to contribute to the cause during the club’s upcoming fixture against the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, 19 July 2026. OzHarvest has been named the official matchday charity partner for the event, where proceeds from the 50-50 Charity Raffle will be donated to support the organisation’s ongoing operations.
The initiative aligns with OzHarvest’s broader national goal to halve Australia’s food waste by 2030, a mission supported by a dedicated workforce of over 3,000 volunteers.
By leveraging the Dolphins’ significant platform in the National Rugby League (NRL), the partnership aims to raise public awareness regarding the environmental and social impacts of food loss.
