DAZN To Become Biggest Serie A Broadcaster

Top flight Italian football competition, Serie A, has awarded the main broadcast rights for its league between 2021-24 to DAZN.

DAZN will be able to broadcast seven exclusive games per week from Italy’s premier football league, along with three co-exclusive games.

The deal is worth a reported AUD$3.86 billion across the three seasons, paying just under AUD$1.3 billion per year.

DAZN is a sports streaming service owned by billionaire Leonard Blavatnik, launched across Europe, Asia, and North America in 2016.

This new deal builds on their current agreement with Serie A, where they broadcast three out of ten games to Italian customers on a matchday.

Their bid was accepted in a 16-4 vote on Friday, requiring the support of 14 clubs in order to pass.

The four clubs that voted against DAZN’s bid were Crotone, Sampdoria, Genoa and Sassuolo, who are some of the smaller clubs in the league.

DAZN will be taking over the rights from Sky, who tabled an offer of AUD$3.48 billion across the three seasons.

Sky will now negotiate for the three available co-exclusive matches per week.

Serie A and DAZN are yet to release official statements on the deal.
