Chelsea target China audience with new pre match show

English Premier League club Chelsea have introduced a new pre-match show produced specifically for the club’s fans in China.

They’re the first international soccer club to air such a show and will be producing 15 episodes of ‘The Chelsea Report’ during the 2018/19 season.

The ten-minute-long segments in Mandarin will include video highlights as well as match-day analysis, team news and sections for fan engagement including man-of-the-match selection which is hoped to strengthen links with the team’s Chinese following.

“Chelsea Football Club enjoys a very strong following in China and we are always looking for ways to better engage with our loyal and passionate supporters in the country,” Chelsea’s marketing director, Gary Twelvetree said.

The club also produces other china specific content including the Blues’ Top 100 Goals, featuring club legends and are reported to be the fastest-growing soccer team on the Chinese social media platform Weibo this year.
