Cadillac To Join 2026 F1 Grid After Final Approval

Formula 1 (F1) has announced the Cadillac Formula 1 Team as the 11th team, with they TWG Motorsports and automotive giant General Motors (GM) backed team joining the grid in 2026.

To obtain final approval, the team met all necessary requirements set forth by the FIA and Formula One Management, paving the way for its highly anticipated debut.

The confirmation solidifies Cadillac’s entry as the 11th team on the grid, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s expansion into top-tier motorsport.

Over the past few months, the team has been building its foundation, securing key personnel to drive its ambitious F1 project forward.

Commenting on joining the grid, GM President, Mark Reuss, said: “We’re thrilled the Cadillac Formula 1 Team is official, as the team has been accelerating its work.”

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support from the FIA and Formula One Management leadership for us and for our partners at TWG. The excitement only grows as we get closer to showcasing GM’s engineering expertise on the prestigious global stage of F1,” he said.

Lowdon, added: ““I couldn’t be prouder of the effort put in thus far by the entire Cadillac Formula 1 team.”

“Through the long and thorough application process, we never lost pace in planning or belief in our mission. We can’t wait to go racing and give fans a new team to cheer for,” he said.

One of the major appointments includes Graeme Lowdon, the former Sporting Director of Marussia, who will take the reins as Team Principal.

Additionally, industry veteran Russ O’Blenes has been named CEO of TWG GM Performance Power Units, a division that will play a crucial role in developing the team’s powertrains.

The team’s entry aligns with Formula 1’s 2026 regulations overhaul, which will introduce new sustainable fuel technology and greater electrification in power units.

The arrival of Cadillac signals growing interest from major automotive manufacturers in Formula 1, reinforcing the sport’s appeal as a global platform for innovation and competition.
