Bryant To Build Esports Facility At Mamba Sports Academy

Former NBA Lakers shooting guard, Kobe Bryant, has announced his intentions to build an esports training ground at the Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks California.

The Sports Academy originally opened in 2016 under CEO and founder Chad Faulkner, but the organisation was rebranded following Bryant’s inclusion.

The 100,000 square-foot facility currently boasts five basketball courts, five volleyball courts, a turf field, a biomechanics lab, batting cages, pitching mounds and will now provide space for competitive gamers.

Currently, the Mamba academy supports more than 50,000 young athletes, as well as serving as a training facility for NBA, National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) athletes during the off-season.

“Mamba Sports Academy is a natural expansion of my commitment to educating and empowering the next generation of kids through sports,” Bryant said.

“At Mamba Sports Academy, we will focus on offering a premium experience on proper training for young athletes, and infuse a little ‘Mamba Mentality’ into their programs.”

Unlike many of his sporting counterparts, Bryant is yet to make an investment in the esports industry.

After telling USA Today earlier this year that “you can’t help but be interested” in competitive gaming, this training ground could serve as a platform should he look to invest in the future.
