Adelaide Football Club has solidified its commitment to women’s football with an extended partnership agreement with BHP, now lasting over a decade through a new three-year extension, taking the collaboration to the end of 2028.
BHP will continue its role as Co-Major sponsor of the crows’ AFLW team, reinforcing its dedication to promoting the growth of women’s football.
The BHP logo will prominently feature on the AFLW playing guernsey, maintaining visibility throughout the season.
Commenting on the partnership, Crows CEO, Tim Silvers, said: “The contribution BHP has made to our AFLW program since 2017 has been significant and has helped us achieve sustained success both on and off the field”
“Importantly, it has allowed countless young boys and girls to witness our women’s team compete on the national stage, providing a clear pathway for them to aspire to.
“This, alongside BHP’s community initiatives, enhances the impact we can make together through the Sir Doug Nicholls Round, and by bringing the game to remote and regional areas through clinics and school visits,” Silvers noted.
BHP asset president Copper SA, Anna Wiley, added: “We are proud of our successful partnership with the Kuwarna AFLW team since 2017, and the significant impact we’ve been able to make in promoting inclusion, diversity, and education through sport,”
“It has been fulfilling to witness the growth of women’s and girls’ football in South Australia, and we are delighted to contribute to this progress.
“The STEM Footy program showcases our collective vision of empowering young minds and fostering enthusiasm for STEM subjects, especially in regional and Indigenous communities.
“By merging sports with education, we inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators, ensuring they are well-equipped for future success,” Wiley said.
Having partnered with the Club since 2017, BHP has maintained a strong presence at home games during the AFLW season.
The renewed agreement sees BHP retaining its status as the official home match sponsor for both the AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round and the AFLW Indigenous Round games.
This partnership goes beyond sponsorship, with BHP supporting the Club’s STEM Footy program, which aligns with the Australian curriculum and reaches regional communities across the state.
In 2024, the Crows made seven trips to the Upper Spencer Gulf region, successfully engaging over 600 students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, with nearly 50% female participation in these initiatives.
Players and staff from Kuwarna will further their community engagement through regional visits to areas such as the Upper Spencer Gulf, Roxby Downs, and Coober Pedy.
These visits will enable the delivery of mass participation clinics for children and support the development of female football in Port Augusta and Whyalla by providing uniforms, equipment, and essential resources.
