The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has announced the appointment of Jacob (Jake) Anson as its inaugural Chief of Public Affairs and International Relations, marking a pivotal step in strengthening its advocacy and stakeholder engagement as Brisbane prepares to host the 2032 Olympic Games.
Mr. Anson brings a wealth of experience in stakeholder and government relations, major infrastructure projects, and community-focused planning within the sports sector. His appointment underscores the AOC’s commitment to maximising the Games’ legacy for Australian sport and its communities.
Joining the AOC in February 2025, Mr. Anson transitions from his role as General Manager of Government, Venues, and Major Projects at the Brisbane Lions Football Club. Over his tenure with the Lions, he has also served as General Manager of Infrastructure, Strategy, and Government Relations, where he was instrumental in driving significant projects and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders across all levels of government.
AOC Chief Executive Matt Carroll praised the appointment, noting Mr. Anson’s impressive track record and the strategic alignment of his expertise with the AOC’s vision.
“Jake’s experience in Queensland positions him uniquely to ensure Brisbane 2032 delivers a lasting and positive legacy for sport not only in the state but across the country,” said Mr. Carroll. “His ability to liaise effectively with government and community stakeholders will be invaluable as we work to create meaningful opportunities for Australians to experience the benefits of sport.”
Mr. Anson echoed this sentiment, expressing enthusiasm for his new role. “It’s an honor to join an organization that plays such a vital role in championing the Olympic Movement in Australia,” he said. “With Brisbane 2032 on the horizon, I’m eager to contribute to a legacy that elevates sport, empowers athletes, and enriches communities nationwide.”
Looking Ahead to Brisbane 2032
As Australia gears up for its first Olympic Games since Sydney 2000, Mr. Anson’s appointment represents a key investment in ensuring the event’s success both during and beyond the Games. With his extensive background and proven leadership, the AOC is well-positioned to navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead.
For the sports industry, particularly stakeholders in government, infrastructure, and community planning, Mr. Anson’s new role signals an exciting chapter of collaboration, with Brisbane 2032 serving as a catalyst for innovation and growth.
