The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has announced Australia’s first female Winter Olympic Games gold medallist, Alisa Camplin-Warner, has been named deputy chef de mission for the Australian team at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Recently, Camplin-Warner was the performance manager for the Australian team at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in 2018 and has held leadership roles in Australian sport including Australian Sports Commission deputy chair, Australian Sports Foundation chair, and Collingwood Football Club director.

Speaking about her appointment, Camplin-Warner said: “I care deeply about every one of our athletes’ Olympic journeys.”

“They have all made sacrifices and invested their lives to represent their country and discover their ultimate potential.

“Meeting each of them, where they are at, and providing what they need to be as mentally, physically and emotionally ready for their moment is incredibly important to me.

“I competed in my first games as a rookie and my second as an Olympic Gold medallist, recovering from serious injuries.

“I’ve also worked two games with our TV media broadcasters and held leadership roles in two prior Olympic Winter Games teams, so I feel really well equipped to support all members of the team in predicting and working through anything that might come our way.

“It’s an absolute honour to be named as deputy chef de mission for Beijing 2022, you can never take these very special appointments for granted.

“Beijing 2022 will bring forward different opportunities for our team, and after living in Hong Kong for the last few years, I have a great sense of the cultural and environmental landscape we will be operating in.

“I can’t wait to help our athletes, coaches and officials with preparations to maximise our performances at the games.

“The Australian Olympic team did that for me in 2002 and 2006, and it’s a privilege to be serving the next generation with that same level of passion and commitment to excellence,” she said.

Chef de mission for the 2022 Beijing Winter Games, Geoff Lipshut, said Camplin-Warner’s leadership and knowledge for the Australian Olympic team made her a great choice to help lead the group.

“I look forward to working closely with Alisa over the months ahead in the lead-up, and then on the ground in February next year,” Lipshut said.

“Alisa’s background as an Olympic champion, then in corporate life makes her the ideal fit for the team.

“She is one of our sporting greats and I am really pleased that the 2022 team athletes and their coaches will have an opportunity to benefit from her involvement,” he said.
