ACT Announces $100,000 in Financial Support for 34 Local Olympic and Paralympic Athletes

With just 45 days to go until the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games begins, the ACT Government has announced that the government will fund 34 local athletes to assist with the expenses associated with their Olympic and Paralympic journey.

Through the 2024 ACT Olympic and Paralympic Training Assistance Athlete Support Program, a total of $100,000 will be distributed among athletes participating in a diverse range of Olympic and Paralympic sports. This financial aid aims to alleviate the financial burden of increased training, competition, equipment, and travel costs as the athletes gear up for the Paris Games.

The selected 34 athletes have been earmarked by their respective National Sporting Organisations as potential members of the 2024 Australian Olympic or Paralympic Teams, with three athletes already securing official spots.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry expressed the government’s pride in supporting these athletes on their journey to the Games, helping to smoothen their path to Paris.

“A wide spectrum of athletes from Olympic and Paralympic disciplines, including cycling, para-athletics, hockey, rowing, para-swimming, skateboarding, and football, will benefit from this funding initiative,” stated Minister Berry.

“We extend our best wishes to the athletes as they make the final sprint towards qualification and readiness for the Games,” added Minister Berry.
