Basketball Australia has entered into an exclusive, multi-year partnership with global sports technology provider Pixellot to launch HoopsTV, a centralised digital video platform designed to standardise community basketball footage and participant engagement nationwide.
Scheduled for rollout across participating local associations beginning in November, the initiative aims to capture over 400,000 games annually across 1,000 venues. The platform replaces fragmented, locally managed recording systems with a secure, nationally consistent framework that enhances player development, officiating standards, and disciplinary oversight while implementing strict privacy and safeguarding protocols.
Commenting on the digital impact of the national video infrastructure on community sports administration, Basketball Australia CEO, Matt Scriven, said: “This partnership is about building a more connected and digitally enabled future for our game.”
“For players and families, easier access to game footage creates more opportunities to review performance, learn and relive the moments that matter.
“HoopsTV gives us the opportunity to make that experience more consistent and accessible, while strengthening privacy, safeguarding and oversight.
“The value of video extends well beyond watching games back. It can support player and coach development, officiating, integrity and disciplinary processes, while helping families and communities stay connected to basketball,” Scriven said.
Highlighting the alignment between local grassroots accessibility and the company’s international technological footprint, Pixellot AU chief commercial officer, Dean Anglin, added: “We are proud to be partnering with Basketball Australia to bring this national digital ecosystem to life.”
“This partnership aligns with the Pixellot global vision for every athlete to be seen, celebrated and remembered.
“The application will provide community players with greater opportunities to watch their games, learn from them and enjoy their basketball moments in a way that has traditionally been easier to provide at higher levels of the sport.
“Working alongside Basketball Australia and the State and Territories, we’re excited to be building something that genuinely serves participants and the game from the grassroots up,” Anglin said.
Access to community game footage on HoopsTV will be restricted to authenticated accounts rather than public broadcasting, allowing registered players, coaches, and parents or guardians to review performance metrics and highlights securely.
Furthermore, the platform integrates explicit participant choices, including opt-out mechanisms for filming, and strictly omits facial recognition technology. The strategic alliance aligns with Pixellot’s global objective to increase athletic visibility while providing grassroots participants with production capabilities traditionally reserved for elite competitions.
