The Tewantin Tennis Club has officially unveiled an infrastructure upgrade, switching on a new $44,000 LED court lighting system designed to propel the club toward national competition standards.
The investment, delivered through the Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program, modernises eight courts to improve safety, accessibility, and night-time playing capacity.
The project was officially inaugurated by the Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Tim Mander. The upgrade ensures that the 40-year-old community institution can continue to host prestigious local and international tournaments while providing a high-performance environment for its growing membership.
Commenting on the venue updgrade, Tewantin Tennis club resident, Bruce Campbell, said: “This is a significant step forward for the club and its members.”
“The new LED system dramatically improves visibility on the courts, reduces energy consumption, and enhances safety for night-time play,” Campbell said.
The Tewantin upgrade serves as a flagship example of the Queensland Government’s broader $30 million Games On! strategy. The program is a core pillar of the state’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy, aimed at modernising grassroots facilities to ensure community participation remains high in the lead-up to the Brisbane games.
Key Strategic Benefits:
The completion of the Tewantin project goes with the opening of Round 2 of the Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program. The organisation is currently calling for Registrations of Interest (ROI) for a fresh $30 million funding pool, distributed across two primary streams:
