Sydney FC CEO Mark Aubrey to Step Down After Two Years

Sydney FC chief executive Mark Aubrey has announced he will step down from his role after two years, initiating a transition process that will see the A-League club prepare for new leadership.

Appointed in 2022, Aubrey has overseen a period of strategic consolidation at the club, working with the board to establish what he described as “a solid foundation and strategy” for future growth.

His tenure has been marked by efforts to strengthen Sydney FC’s commercial position, deepen community engagement, and maintain the club’s competitive profile in both men’s and women’s competitions.

In a public statement, Aubrey acknowledged the breadth of the football ecosystem in Australia, thanking partners, members, fans, and fellow A-League club executives, as well as Football Australia and Football NSW.

He also credited the Sydney FC board for its support and praised the club’s staff, players, and volunteers, emphasising the culture built around what he termed the “team behind the team”.

While no specific timeline for his departure has been confirmed, the club will now begin preparing for the leadership transition.

For Sydney FC, one of the competition’s most prominent clubs, the change in leadership presents both a risk and an opportunity. Aubrey leaves with strong relationships across the football community and an operational framework in place, but his successor will inherit the ongoing challenge of converting participation strength into sustained commercial growth for the code.

The announcement highlights the increasing visibility of executive turnover in Australian football, where leadership stability is seen as critical to managing long-term strategies around fan growth, infrastructure, and revenue diversification.

Sydney FC is expected to provide further updates on the search for its next CEO in the coming months.
