The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee has announced that Chief Executive Officer Cindy Hook will step down from her leadership role at the conclusion of her four-year contract.
Originally appointed in December 2022 following an extensive global executive search, the former Deloitte Asia Pacific Chief Executive was tasked with establishing the organisational foundation for Australia’s third Summer Olympic Games.
Her scheduled departure coincides with the completion of the organising committee’s initial startup and capability-building phase, transitioning the operational mandate toward project delivery, venue readiness, and commercial execution ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Commending Hook’s governance and structural contribution to the organisation, Brisbane 2032 president, Andrew Liveris, said: “Cindy has been an exceptional leader whose passion, drive and strategic intellect has set Brisbane 2032 up for success.”
“Cindy commenced when the organizing committee was a fledgling startup and has transformed Brisbane 2032 into a thriving organisation.
“Her focus on values, organisational excellence and strict financial and governance processes are embedded throughout a high caliber team that she recruited and I thank her for her great contributions,” Liveris said.
Reflecting on her four-year tenure and the operational progression of the organising committee, Hook, framed the leadership transition as a planned progression into the next phase of event delivery.
“As CEO, I am proud to have built the organization from the ground up, set the Games Vision and Games Plan, designed and executed a clear strategy, created the brand narrative and launched incredible emblems, and driven early market momentum.”
“During the past four years, I have achieved everything we had hoped for and had many amazing experiences along the way.
“The foundations for success have been well laid.
“This is the right time to hand over to a new CEO for the next phase,” Hook stated.
Under Hook’s tenure, Brisbane 2032 developed its core organisational structure, framed its strategic Games Plan, and launched its corporate brand identity, which recently featured the official unveiling of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic emblems.
The Brisbane 2032 Board confirmed that recruitment for a successor will begin immediately to ensure a seamless operational handoff as Queensland prepares for long-term infrastructure and event logistics.
