Nine Entertainment Announce Restructured Streaming and Broadcast Division

image

Nine has announced a significant leadership restructure across its Streaming and Broadcast division, aimed at accelerating growth and aligning strategic priorities under the Nine2028 transformation program.

The changes, effective from 1 July 2025, follow the creation of Nine’s unified Streaming and Broadcast division earlier this year and signal a shift towards greater operational integration across free-to-air, streaming, and subscription platforms.

The division will be led by Amanda Laing, Nine’s Managing Director of Streaming and Broadcast, who will oversee a cross-platform strategy focused on driving advertising and subscription revenue growth, particularly through enhanced content, sport, and marketing synergies.

As part of the restructure:

  • Michael Healy becomes Executive Director – Entertainment, with oversight across Channel 9, 9Now, and Stan, reflecting an expanded remit that leverages his decades-long track record in Australian content production.

  • Cailah Scobie is appointed Executive Director – Entertainment Content Acquisitions, responsible for securing content that maximises revenue across both ad-supported and subscription platforms.

  • Fiona Dear will continue to lead as Executive Director – News & Current Affairs, overseeing storytelling across all Nine brands and spearheading the ongoing transformation of 9News.

In sport, one of Nine’s largest areas of investment the company will consolidate its production arms (Wide World of Sports and Stan Sport) under Brent Williams. This move aims to unlock efficiencies and elevate production standards across Nine’s premium sports properties.

Laing will also spearhead a broader strategic review of Nine’s sports operations, covering rights acquisition, partnerships, and revenue strategy across both broadcast and subscription models.

Additional appointments and changes include:

  • A Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Marketing Officer for Streaming and Broadcast (recruitment for both roles is underway).

  • State Managing Directors in Queensland (Kylie Blucher), Western Australia (Clive Bingwa), and South Australia (Sean O’Brien) will now report directly to Laing.

  • Hamish Turner assumes responsibility for the P&L of Channel 9, 9 multi-channels, and 9Now.

  • Dan Taylor will oversee Stan, identified as a key growth pillar.

  • Tom Malone continues as Managing Director of Radio, which remains structurally unchanged.

In a statement, Laing said the restructure is about aligning capabilities across platforms to fully capitalise on Nine’s cross-channel reach. “While Nine’s streaming and broadcast brands have enjoyed independent success, our strength lies in the power of the Nine Group,” she said. “Today’s changes are the first step in unlocking that potential.”
