Major contributors from the Snow Australia community were celebrated at the 2023 Victorian Sport Awards last night, with three members clinching accolades for their stellar performances last year.
Among the celebrated recipients were OWIA Mogul’s Coach Peter McNeil, snowboarder Scotty James, and mogul skier Jakara Anthony.
Scotty James was bestowed with the esteemed Frank Wilkes Award, given to a Victorian athlete who has showcased exceptional national and international prowess in the male category. James’ remarkable 2023 season was punctuated by triumphs at the Secret Garden World Cup in China, a commendable top 10 finish at Copper Mountain, a triumphant third title at the LAAX Open, and a record-breaking sixth X-Games SuperPipe gold medal in Aspen.
Meanwhile, Jakara Anthony clinched the prestigious Kitty McEwan Award in recognition of her outstanding season, marked by an impressive haul of nine World Cup medals and her third Crystal Globe trophy. The Kitty McEwan Award celebrates the accomplishments of a Victorian athlete who has excelled on both national and international stages in the female category.
Peter McNeil was lauded with the Leasexpress Coach of the Year award for his exceptional coaching performance throughout 2023. Under McNeil’s expert guidance, athletes Matt Graham and Jakara Anthony collectively secured an impressive 13 World Cup medals, including a standout double-gold medal triumph at the FIS World Cup in Deer Valley.
These accolades serve as a testament to the extraordinary talent prevalent within the Snow Australia community, showcasing their enduring impact on the global winter sports arena.
