Gravity Media Australia is set to extend its groundbreaking NetCam technology to the world of tennis, with a new deal with The All England Lawn Tennis Club for continued use of its “NetCam” for global coverage of The Championships, Wimbledon.

NetCam, an innovation that has already made waves at The Championships, will continue to play a pivotal role in major tennis tournaments worldwide. Alongside its presence at The Championships, NetCam has become an integral component of the US Open Tennis Championships and is primed for use at next year’s Australian Open Tennis Championships.

Gravity Media Australia’s NetCam provides tennis enthusiasts with a unique viewing experience, offering an entirely fresh perspective on the sport’s action. It is a fixture at Grand Slams, ATP, and WTA Finals, ensuring that audiences around the world can relish in the excitement of tennis from a new vantage point.

NetCam is equipped with a dual UHD (ultra-high definition) camera platform featuring two simultaneous 12g-SDI digital video transmission outputs, one from each camera. This enables simultaneous filming of both players, guaranteeing that the most thrilling moments are captured and broadcast to a global audience.

Located discreetly within the centre strap of the net, just behind the white vertical adjustment strap, NetCam allows viewers to immerse themselves in the match from an entirely unique perspective. Using a courtside fibre converter to transform signals into the optical format, shots from the centre of the court can be swiftly transmitted via a mobile control room or production truck.

Gravity Media Australia’s Globecam unit has a track record of pioneering high-definition digital miniature live broadcast devices that captivate and engage viewers with innovative camera angles and perspectives. Their innovations span various sports, ranging from cricket with HelmetCam and UmpireCam to in-car camera technologies in the V8 and Formula One motorsports.

Paul Davies, Head of Broadcast, Production & Media Rights at The Championships, Wimbledon, praised NetCam’s contribution, stating, “The use of NetCam on Centre and No. 1 Court brings a unique and dynamic perspective to the broadcast coverage during The Championships. The delicate challenge of integrating these cameras within the grass courts has always been sensitively managed between Gravity Media Australia and our ground staff and we look forward to continuing this long-standing partnership.”

Greg Littrich, Director of Operations at Gravity Media Australia, expressed his pleasure at collaborating with The All England Lawn Tennis Club and expanding their specialised camera technologies. He stated, “Gravity Media Australia is pleased to be working in partnership with The All England Lawn Tennis Club and delivering our specialist camera technologies to add further depth and audience engagement for the internationally recognised global television coverage of The Championships. We thank them for entrusting us to be a part of such a significant event in sports. We are committed to the continuing development of Gravity Media’s speciality cameras and take great pride that technology designed and developed in Australia now forms an integral component of coverage of so many sports around the world.”
