World Surf League Broadcast Expansion

Fox Sports Australia have announced a new expansion of their deal with World Surf League (WSL) for the 2022 season.

Foxtel Group head of content acquisitions for sport, Adam Howarth, said: “We’re proud to continue our long-term partnership with the World Surf League which will ensure our 2.4 million subscriber base has access to watch the best surfing action in the world.”

“Being able to showcase more hours than ever before on our platforms also reinforces our commitment to the sport and its passionate fanbase,” he said.

The expansion will include more broadcast hours than previous years, with all events streamed live on Fox Sports and Kayo, including all 2022 WSL Championship Tour events, the Australian Challenger Series, international CS events, with hour-long event wrap up shows for each major event.

WSL Asia Pacific general manager, Andrew Stark, said: “With the introduction of the Rip Curl WSL Finals, 2021 was one of the most watched seasons in WSL history.”

“With the resumption of a full season schedule along with the return of fan favourite events in Tahiti, Indonesia and Hawaii, 2022 is set to be the biggest season in the league’s history.

“Having Fox Sports partner with WSL once again is so exciting and to see our agreement continue to expand says a lot about the strength of our partnership,” Stark said.

Each event of the tour will include an hour long wrap up and over 1,100 hours of WSL content, the most hours ever broadcast during the 13-year partnership.

The coverage begins on 29 January with the Billabong Pro Pipeline.
